When the circus comes to town....

The circus is in town!
and i'm very excited...

doesnt the thought of going to the circus excite you!

The last time a circus came to Ljubljana it must have
been the worst circus in the entire world.
The highlight was a girl coming on and miming to 'i'm a barbie girl'
and a cat being pushed through a hoop because it wouldnt jump.

Nevertheless...
at the end of it the owner of the circus came up to me and told me that i could come back everynight for free as i was the best member of an audience that he had ever had....

Yes that is how enthusiastic i am about circuses...

I got a leaflet in my mailbox yesterday which not only had pictures of lions and giraffes on it
but a 3euro discount too....
Sold!

P.S. Let them eat cake....

The happy couple...

A Marriage....

Can I introduce you to my lovely friend Stanka?

and my lovely friend Davor who got married on Saturday?

Stanka waited for two years for Davor to return from Spain where he spent two years as a missionary for our church.
They announced their engagement six weeks ago.
Three weeks ago I had a conversation with Stanka about how the wedding preparations were coming along.

What are you going to wear i asked?

Stanka proceeded to tell me that she hadn't got round to that yet but that she was probably going to make something her self that she could re-use.

I asked her about the flowers.
She told me she was hoping the Forget-Me-Nots would bloom in time for the wedding. They did. In fact i spent most of Friday in a field picking wild Forget-Me-Nots to decorate the hall.
She made her own bouquet.

I asked her about rings?
She said she had told Davor that she had a ring that she normally wears that she could use, you know....just switch fingers....
Davor told her this wasnt allowed!
and i definitely saw matching rings on the day.

In Slovenia its the law that you have to get married at the Castle by a Government Official before you can have a religious ceremony.
So that makes picking the destination easy.
(They are heading to Frankfurt tomorrow to get married in the temple.)

Davor and Stanka's wedding was a beautiful wedding.
Photography, Viedeography, Food, Decoration, Music ect.... were all done by friends who gave their time to help out them out.

It was a beautiful wedding because the wedding itself wasnt important.
What was important was that they were getting married
and preparing to start a life together.

I often speak to people who claim that they cant get married because they cant afford to.
Anyone can afford to get married....a marriage itself doesnt cost any money.

The Continuing Adventures of Rusty and The Childlike Empress.....

Rusty is my bike.

When i first moved to Ljubljana and my Dad was driving over with some things he asked me if there was anything i needed,
'a bike' requested I.
'A bike?' my Dad questioned
very sensibly seeing as i havent ridden a bike since i was about 8 years old.

but on arriving here i saw people of all ages and sizes cycling around and i was envious.
Ljubljana is a beautiful place to cycle around, mainly because its flat and the bike paths are so safe. In the summer the buses become empty and the cycle paths filled.

Being my Daddy and being a fulfiller of wishes he found Rusty
in the back of my Aunts garden where he had become lonely and misused ever since my Aunt had moved on and forgotten all about him and brought him over.

It was love at first sight.

Rusty has been in hibernation over winter but this weeki managed to bat my eyelashes at a bicycle pump owner the other day who duly came around and pumped up Rustys flat little tyres and yesterday we embarked on our first adventure of the season.

The sun was out and the birds were a-tweeting and i told Rusty how much i had missed him.

Unfortunately i have no pictures of Rusty and i , but instead here are some pretty pictures of other girlies with their very own Rustys....

(For some reason i only like to cycle wearing a dress...
it's such a lovely feeling.
I have also discovered that cycling in stilettos is pretty fun....)

(P.S i was not at all brave,
and melted like a piece of chocolate in a fondue)

Being Brave.....

Today i need to be a little bit Brave and do something that i dont want to do.

I need to muster up some Courage from deep inside
and talk to someone about Truths that we have been avoiding.

Avoiding because we know that they are scary
Avoiding because without talking about them
everything seems beautiful.

But we both know that they are there
lurking under the stairs
and neither of us has the Courage to go
down into the cellar and bring them up.

I think that i might chicken out,
because when he talks to me
his words sparkle and make me feel like starlight....

and who wouldnt want to be made to feel like starlight.

Sunday thought....

I just caught the end of this documentary a moment ago on The National Geographic Channel.
It moved me.
It's something truly beautiful,
take a few minutes to have a watch.

"Just when we think that we know it all so well....."

I think life can always surprise us.
I think that people can always surprise us
so we should always give them the benefit of the doubt.

Come join me in Amsterdam...

I love my ex-flat mate Vikki who now lives in Austria.
She is one of those people who is never really angry and smiles when they are sad.

(just an average trip to the bank with Vikki)

Her status on Facebook today read -

"amsterdam is amazing...just i didnt find the water!!! hm...mc donalds tastes the same....hm lets see how its continuing tomorrow;-)"

to which i wrote her a comment saying i didnt know she was in Amstedam and wished i was there too. Her reply really made me smile,

"we planned a trip for 4 of us because one friend has 30th birthday...but all flights are cancelled....so we are still in vienna and will stay here....but we met yesterday out in vienna and acted as if we were in amsterdam:-) so u must not be jealous....i am stuck in austria"

I told her i'm on my way to Amsterdam to visit.

Sometimes...

Sometimes...
I dont like being a Grown-Up
as it means i have to worry about things
like how to pay my bills
and have lots of upsetting
where-is-my-life-going Thoughts.

But
Sometimes....
its great as i can eat Poptarts
for dinner as much as i like
and no-one can tell me otherwise.

Miss Scarlett in the Ballroom with the Revolver....

Finally i played i got my game of Cluedo!!!!
Anyone around me in the last year would hear me whinging on a lot about how i fancy playing a game of Cluedo.

But so far no-one has owned it and half of them dont know what i'm harping on about.

So i got myself an old Cluedo set off of good-old-ebay.
(Old as in from the 70's as the new ones are all updated with fancy new characters and what-not and that just scared me)

Oh the fun that was commenced on Saturday night.....

We then moved onto a re-match for a game of Pink Scrabble
(pink being the my favourite colour to play Scrabble in)

I moved to the top of the leader board...
mainly by scoring my personal best word score of 48.
My big sister informed me,
when i told her this piece of information,
that i'm a geek and that shouldnt brag about knowing
my top word (and game) score at Scrabble,
as
a) its not cool and
b)nobody else could care less.....

A little bit of Twiggy loving....

Every year in my neighbourhood there is a Summer Gala which holds an fancy dress competition as part of its celebrations.
When i was about 8 i wanted to go as a mermaid.
My dad's suggestion was that as i was so skinny, i should get dressed up in brown and hold a few branches in my hand and when the local council man asked me to tell him what i had come as i should tell him, 'Twiggy'.
Being 8, the joke was lost on me, and my desire to go as a mermaid prevailed.
On the other hand my dad found himself exceedingly witty and funny and has nicknamed me Twiggy ever since.... (that and stick insect but i think i prefer the former)

If only i looked a bit like Twiggy....

(i have attempted to the make-up once but i ended up looking rather like a scary clown gone wrong)

Romeo and Julietiing....

We are currently performing Romeo and Juliet again and i can say without a doubt that it is my favourite ballet to dance in.

I think mainly because of the music. Prokofiev's score has so much energy and drama to it that it makes it inspires you to give everything to it without even trying. Especially the ballroom scene....i never tire of it....

I also like the version we do which is by a Hungarian choreographer called Yuri Vamos. It is set in Italy during the 1930's with each family a different side of the mob.

And no matter how many time i have seen the death scene...it moves me to tears every time.

I cant wait for performance on friday...

here is a little sneak peak...

The Great Egg Roll of 2010.....

I havent been at home for Easter in a long long time...and whenever i suggest to people that we go roll our easter eggs....i normally get blank stares.
But this is my family tradition,( i think its mainly a Scottish thing.)
We felt tip our eggs, and go down to the local beach and throw our eggs down the hill.
The winner is whoever s egg last the longest....

My mum sent me some pictures from the ,'The Great Egg Roll of 2010"

The Egg Contendors....
a list of their names was also supplied (see if you can match them)...
The Hulk, The Joker, Superman, Japanesee, Hey Arnold!, Gramps, Betsy-Lou, Harry Potter, Mister Invisible, Lovey-Dovey, Two Face, Blue-Man, Doom Man

The Rollers (in age and height order)

Mum and Dad join (half) the clan

Of course there is always the expected tears when the first egg breaks.....
and lots of training has gone into the ability to run up and down the hill to retrieve your egg against Edinburgh's strong winds....
Georgia and her egg Betsy Lou were the victors.
Georgia's technique and Betsy Lou's hard-headedness were a winning combination.
As can be seen from her expert egg-rolling poise....
Maybe some time soon i'll get home for Easter and challenge them....

I am a Princess (only know one knows it)....

Whatever comes, cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.

Cheerful Rainy Day Thoughts

As it is such a miserable rainy day out side i've decided to think of things that have made me smile in the last 24 hours.

Reading my sisters facebook status which read -
just found a home made comic in the bathroom... little brothers are strange?!?

watching Samantha Who?

receiving a pretty new vintage lacey mint green dress that i bought in the post

receiving three Cadburys Twirl bars in the post

eating three Cadburys Twirl bars

chatting with my 10yeard old brother Jordan on facebook
when the conversation went a bit like this -

me - what did you do today?
Jordan - nothing
me- what? didnt you go to school?
jordan - yeah...but why would i bring that into my life story?

coming out of the meeting with my Director that i've been
putting off for ages (i wanted to ask for a payrise) and realising that it wasnt so bad.

starting a new book

listening to Sweet Charity soundtrack this morning on my ipod

listening to The Dave Gorman Podcast on my ipod last night

seeing how excited Del-Boy gets when i give her a tomato
