Prayer.....

I'm a girl who believes in prayer.
I very rarely make a decision without passing it by the Big Man first,
and if i forget,
i always doubt whether i made the right choice,
if i pray i will always know.
So making a decision about who you are going to marry is HUGE!
there has been a lot of prayer time dedicated to it over the years over here at my house.
I just read a great talk on prayer
A couple of my favourite bits -
In His mercy, the God of heaven, the Creator and Ruler of all things everywhere, had heard a prayer about a very minor thing. One might well ask why He would concern Himself with something so small. I am led to believe that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that the things that are important to us become important to Him, just because He loves us. How much more would He want to help us with the big things that we ask, which are right (see 3 Nephi 18:20)?
We must not imagine that any kind of prayer, no matter how sincere, will be very effective if all we do is to say the prayer. We must not only say our prayers; we must also live them. The Lord is much more pleased with the person who prays and then goes to work than with the person who only prays. Much like medicine, prayer works only when we use it as directed.
Please do not be discouraged if this does not work for you all at once. Like learning a foreign language, it takes practice and effort. Please know, though, that you can learn the language of the Spirit, and when you do, it will give you great faith and power in righteousness.
And as excited as i am about my future,
and i know i love My Captain with all my heart,
and he's the best person that i know
there are the occasional moments when i'm still worrying,
am i getting it right?
this is it....
this is THE decision of a life time...
but at the end of the day, i know that if i pray
about it and all those worries go away,
then i'm on the right track,
(this picture of Grace Kelly is one of my all time favourite images)

Just a wee quote....

"The greatest battle of life is fought out within the silent chambers of the soul. A victory on the inside of a man's heart is worth a hundred conquests on the battlefields of life. To be master of yourself is the best guarantee that you will be master of the situation. Know thyself. The crown of character is self-control"

The wise words of Kevin Costner....
I have a little notebook that i occassionally write down quotes in.
I like to write them down on random pages
and yesterday i came across this one that i'd forgotten about,
a quote from the lovely Kevin Costner,
"Real heroes are men who fall and fail and are flawed,
but win out in the end because
they stayed true to their ideals and beliefs."
and this comes from a guy who has played Robin Hood,
so he must be in the know.
And now, just whilst Kevin Costner is on my mind,
i'm going to put it out their and say how much i love pretty
much all his movies that i've seen,
especially
The Postman,
which was such a box office failure.
i think i love it more because of that.
hmmmmm........
i'm thinking right now i might
watch me a bit of Waterworld....

crying.....

Yesterday i was tired up to the point of exhaustion.
My legs were wobbling like jelly trying to keep my body standing upright.
'Again!'
she shouted at me in Russian,
a language i can barely comprehend and cannot speak.
It was just the beginning of the day,
and my legs got tired-er and tired-er
and i wanted to tell her i couldnt go on,
but didnt.
And things just got worse from there on in as i tried to push through
the barrier of exhaustion.
And i cried.
And it felt good.
And it reminded of a quote from one of my favourite movies,
"but what do you do?
You laugh.
I'm not saying i don't cry,
but inbetween, i laugh.
I realise how silly it is to take everything too seriously.
Plus, I look forward to a good cry - it feels good"
The Garden State
so today i'm trying to laugh.

The Neverending Story.....
i'm re-reading The Neverending Story.
By the title of this blog i'm sure that its clear that i'm a fan.
As a child i dreamed of being The Childlike Empress,
and at around the age of 16 i discovered the book and a whole new adventure began.
When people ask me for a recommended read,
its always my first recommendation.
I've read about 20 pages and already i've oodles of quotes that
'I wonder, he said to himself, whats in a book while its closed. Oh, i know its full of letters printed on paper, but all the same, something must be happening, because as soon as i open it, there's a whole story with people i don't know yet and all kind of adventures and deeds and battles. And sometimes there are storms at sea, or it takes you to strange cities and countries. All those thig are somehow shut up in a book. Of course you have to read it to find out. But, its already there, thats the funny thing. i just wish i knew how it could be'
Suddenly an almost festive mood came over him.
He settled himself, picked up the book, opened it to the first page and began to read
The Neverending Story'

Making Friends...
Friendship is born in the moment
when one person says to the other,
"What! you too?
I thought I was the only one."
C.S.Lewis

One of the hardest things about leaving Slovenia and going to a new country
is the thought of having to make new friends.
is the thought of having to make new friends.
I like the fact that i have been here long enough that i no longer have to try and explain away
my little quirks and oddities that each of us have,
i dont have to defend them,
that is just how i am and my friends know this and have accepted me for who i am.
i am sure that there are new friends out there in the making...
its just a daunting thought as
the process of finding them can be tough and lonely.

Belated Sunday Thought...

One woman who had been through years of trial and sorrow said through her tears,
"i have come to realise that i am like an old twenty dollar bill, crumpled, torn, dirty, abused and scarred.
But i am still a twenty dollar bill.
I am worth something.
Even though i may not look like much
and even though i have been battered and used.
I am still worth the full twenty dollars."

Sunday thought....

"The heights of great men were not obtained by sudden flight.
But they, while their companions slept, were toiling in the night"

I am a Princess (only know one knows it)....
Whatever comes, cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it. A Little Princess

Giggling...

"Love is a kind of dementia with very precise and oft repeated symptoms. You blush in each others presence, you both hover in places you expect the other to pass, you are both a little tongue tied, you both laugh inexplicably and too long, you become quite nauseatingly girlish and he becomes quite ridiculously gallant. You have also grown a little stupid"

I was told recently that i giggle a lot.
I thought about it....
I only giggle around certain people....
