Bedtime Stories....

"Everyone likes a fairy tale story because everyone wants things to come out right in the end. And even though to tell a story is to tell some kind of untruth, one often suspects that what seems to be untruth is really a hidden truth."

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Lights....

Finally got round to seeing the Christmas Lights and Market in Center Ljubljana. Every year there are new ones which they simply add rather than replacing so there is a large mix of different themes which all clash....i love it!!!
This year seems to be the year of the giant cubes.....

Although a few of them need explaining.....
what does this one look like to you?

If you say and egg with sperm around it you would be right.
When these lights were designed there was a competition and these were chosen as they represented birth and the new year.......

along with that theme is the Giant DNA strand

and yes these are not pretty comets but giant intergalactic sperm
You also wouldnt find any red lights as it reminded them too much of communism,
but this year i see that a few have begun to sneak in!

i do not suffer from chionophobia-( Fear of Snow)....

Oh how fluffy was my excitement yesterday morning when i opened my blinds to see that it had snowed over night!!!!

Later in the evening Captain Tim and I got dressed up in our Silliest but Sensibilist Snowman Building attire.

Unfortunately there wasn't quite as much snow in the garden as my eager anticipation anticipated....there was enough to make a baby snowman whom we named Beethoven.

We placed him on the windowsill so he could look in the window and watch tv with us... he would like to have come inside but he suffers from a Fear-Of-Melting-Indoors......

most snowmen do....

Happy Birthday Big Sis!!!!!!

At one point when we were growing up my dad decided to use a parenting technique he had heard about on us, it was this, that whenever we were fighting he would separate us (we usually resorted to hair-pulling) and make us each say one nice thing about each other.

Unfortunately this technique back-fired when i discovered a loop hole. Everytime we had to say something nice i always came up with,

"ummmm, she has nice hair."

I'm pretty sure my dad never noticed that i only ever had one nice thing to say...but it sure did drive my sister crazy! Needless to say his one attempt at any sort of parenting technique put an end to all 'techniques' in the future. so i thought i'd redeem myself a little bit and write some things i like about my Big Sister....

1. She is crazy...trust me that is a good thing.

2. She taught me how to appreciate vintage.

3.She works in a vintage store, which is now appreciated

4.She taught me to appreciate 80's movies and music.

5.She is a trend setter.....always cottons onto new fashions that little bit before they're fashionable...it means she is often saying ,'i told you so' to the minions.
6.If i'm having a bad day, she is the first person i want to call.

7.She lived with me for 2 years in a tiny bunk bed apartment in london and never tried to strangle me once.....that makes her hardcore!

8.She never gives up.

9.She tries her hardest to be a great role model for all her little brothers and sisters.

10.She is great to have late night chats with.

11.She has the perplexing ability to make any crying child smile.....or fall asleep within seconds.

12.She understands me....no explanations needed.

ohhh.....and she has nice hair....

Buying books....

I was in my favourite second hand book store here in Ljubljana today. I picked up an old Penguins book printed in the 1930'sand opened it. The first sentence was,

"This book is an invitation to share an adventure"

I thought, this is the book for me....

A spooky Christmas Carol

(the german poster version but personally i like it best!)

I managed to persuade some friends to go see the new Christmas Carol movie, surprisingly it was easier to do than i thought.
Boy, oh, boy did i enjoy it.
It was a lot darker than i thought it was going to be, a bit more nitty gritty Dickens style than the cheerful Christmas movie i was expecting. In fact at one point i got carried away and let out a large shriek! when the ghost appeared, the guy sitting next to me asked me (whilst the whole row was laughing at my shriek!)
"didnt i know what the story was about"
"why yes"
replied i,
"only i've only ever seen the Muppets version and it aint no way near as scary as this"

On the upside i am a huge fan of the horror movie genre and feel very upset when i leave a horror film without having jumped once, so was pleasantly content to leave a Christmas genre movie with a surprise 'horror jump' in it.

My only regret - that i didnt see it in 3d.
